Day after day in the same environment can feel numbing, overwhelming, and stagnant. Forced physical restriction has lead me to find comfort in stories both scientific and magical. Where I can explore the expansive landscapes of another world.
One such world that I've returned to in these last few months is that of Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace. Grace's interpretation of the quilt as a flag, or signal from one woman to another once inspired me to create my own. Again, I am stitching a quilted message to wrap myself inside. A flag for the new landscapes to which I sail in text, in film, and in sleep.
Work in Progress
Still needs batting and overstitch
Your quilt is beautiful, Kennedy! Very comforting.
